Amy Weil
I am a New York artist creating encaustic paintings. My work embodies abstractions that parallel the cycles of nature by a process of scraping, adding, and fusing wax. The encaustic process allows exploration of landscape on a more abstract and deeper level by spontaneously inscribing, scraping and adding wax that allude to and reflect on the natural process of nature. My interest lies in how time is circular rather than linear and my paintings allow the viewer to see the past, present and future all at once as each layer reveals the layer before.
